From the beginning, leading offshore wind operator Parkwind had a risk-based approach on their cable assets. Bathymetric surveys showed the present seabed mobility was significant, yet very hard to predict. Even with more frequent surveys, recurrent vulnerable exposure of cables resulted in ad-hoc reburial campaigns. Those are costly and sometimes not effective, as post-analysis subsequently showed.
Parkwind developed a tool for continuous cable risk assessment themselves, but the burial depth status still remained an unknown factor.
“At the same time, we met the people of Marlinks and we were immediately interested in their solution. We collected all the necessary data together and started monitoring the Belwind and Northwind cable. Simultaneously, we integrated both our systems. The Marlinks-application is running for a couple of months now and we are confident the overall risk decreased, thanks to their continuous monitoring”
