Meet our new Business Developer for the UK and US, Andrew Lloyd.

Last month Marlinks had the pleasure to onboard Andrew Lloyd, our new UK Business Development Manager, who comes with a vast experience in the power cable installation, repair and maintenance sector having worked for Global Marine for over 20 years. He has travelled the globe and undertaken projects in Europe, Americas, and Asia. With decades of experience in the subsea cable industry Andrew decided last year to start his own consultancy and business development services to the marine sector. As the world weens itself off fossil fuels power from renewables, and interconnectors cables will become critical infrastructure, it will become more importance to monitoring their condition and their ability to transport the electricity in a reliable manner. Therefore, Andrew is looking forward working in the growing business of cable monitoring and demonstrate to the industry the importance of looking after the subsea cables.

So, who is Andrew? Well, Andrew started his career early on as a pipeline engineer at EMC (European Marine Contractors) where his most memorable project was the installation of the Europipe and the repair of the Ping Hu pipeline in the South China Sea. After EMC came Global Marine, having its core business in the installation of submarine telecommunication cables before entering the windfarm market at the start of the sectors growth. His first cable installation project was for NOSA where they installed two repeated fiber optic cables from the North of Norway to the archipelago of Svalbard. Andrew continued entering the offshore wind market with Global Marine for the Kentish Flats project, the first commercial scale windfarm in the UK. The industry has developed a lot since this early project in 2005, and the importance of properly managing the subsea cables is much better understood now.

A promotion to Installation Director followed with P&L responsibility for all telecoms related projects, the installation vessels, sea staff and all the shore-side support functions including sales, bids, and project delivery.

In parallel to this he also took on the role of Project Director for the Thornton Bank array cable installation project. Following brief exit from the subsea power cable market, Global Marine appointed Andrew as the Director of Power Cables to establish a power cable installation and repair business. His last assignment was creating a power cable maintenance business called Complete Cable Care, Europe’s leading power cable service offering.

After more than 20 years at Global Marine, the time finally arrived to start his own business and sail new seas (figuratively speaking). Absolutely in line with his last project, Complete Cable Care, Andrew now supports Marlinks with further expanding into the UK market.

We very much look forward continuing our journey in the UK with you, Andrew!
